Fifty Books a Year: Progress Report

1. Jennifer Weiner’s The Guy Not Taken: She is the author of In Her Shoes and Good in Bed. This book was actually a collection of short stories from as early as her college days. I like the way she writes, even though it’s not very thought-provoking. I did enjoy this one, but it made me really sad. Most of her college-day writings came in the wake of her parents’ divorce, so a lot of the short stories were incredibly depressing. (It made me wonder if everyone would eventually get divorced if they lived long enough…)

2. Sundays at Tiffany’s by James Patterson: I normally don’t count those slightly-elevated trash novels (scant plot, outrageous circumstances, main character who beds someone new in each chapter) as reading, and James Patterson tends to be one of “those” writers, but I liked this one. It had a strange twist, and as a kid who loved the movie Drop Dead Fred, it struck a chord.
